Lakeridge PTA Science Fair Inspires and Nurtures Scientific Curiousity
Mercer Island, WA, April 11, 2025 – Lakeridge Elementary held their PTA Science Fair Thursday evening at Islander Middle School.
The goal of the Science Fair is to inspire and nurture scientific curiosity through an event that is a celebration of science.
One of the highlights of the Science Fair is the egg drop, where students build a structure on their own using materials that they feel may prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a significant height. The eggs were dropped by parent volunteers from a lift approximately 20 feet in the air.
The Science Fair had numerous fun and interactive STEAM/STEM activities, including:
- Science Fair Scavenger Hunt
- Petal Arts and Anna Artz Studios interactive art displays
- IMS Robotics Club had their robots and drones on display
- Curiosity Club had several science activities, including tornado tubes and water bottle experiments for people to use as well as having magnifying glasses, skulls and other specimens for examination
- Mathnasium brought their very popular "Math Wheel of Fortune”
- Wise Camps had several interactive science displays
The Science Fair is a noncompetitive event designed to encourage students to experience the fun true nature of science: to ask questions and find the answers yourself! Every student presented their science project and discussed their findings.
The benefits of the Science Fair include:
- Encourages independent thinking and a chance to think “outside the box”
- Opportunity to investigate and explore a new idea
- Builds presentation and data collecting skills
- Gets students acquainted with scientific terms and thought processes
